About Bowling Green State University
Bowling Green State University (BGSU) aspires to be the premier learning community in Ohio, and one of the best in the nation. In a premier learning community, the combined effort of the faculty, staff and fellow graduate students creates the intellectual stimulus and significant research opportunities to provide you with the highest quality educational experience.
BGSU was founded in 1910 as a teacher training college, with an enrollment of 304. Since that initial year, it has grown steadily in size and scope. Today, the BGSU campus is situated on 1,338 acres, with 116 buildings. More than 20,000 students, including about 3,000 graduate students, attend classes on the main campus each year.
BGSU’s academic offering has also expanded over the decades. The University offers 13 associate degree programs, more than 200 undergraduate majors and programs, 68 master’s degree programs, 15 doctoral programs and two specialist degree programs.
BGSU also offers distance education options for selected programs, including the Master of Criminal Justice. Through online learning, or e-learning, students across the country are able to obtain a learning experience equally superior to our traditional in-class programs.
