General Education Program
Teaching someone something is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life. Whether you merely show someone how to do something a little easier or train them for a whole new profession, teaching someone anything they don't know forever changes their life. Thankfully, there is an entire field dedicated to teaching people: the field of general education. This field is one of the largest in the country and provides numerous job opportunities on both the personal and professional job front. If you have ever wanted to earn your degree in education, here are a few things you'll need to know.
General Education Program Curriculum
A bachelor's degree in general education will typically cover topics from social science, mathematics, humanities, and physical science. It will also cover teaching methods, educational research and educational psychology. This degree will take you about four years to complete and is meant to provide a healthy overview of liberal arts and science so you can give your students a broad understanding of these topics and keep them well rounded individuals.
General Education Program Degrees
You will need continuing education beyond a high school diploma in order to teach. In some states you will also need state certification. The type of education you will need will depend on two things: what type of age group do you want to teach and what position you are applying for. For example, someone who only wants to teach early childhood education would not want to get their bachelor's in general education if they want to focus on kinder garden and preprogram students. However, someone who would like to teach older students would need both a bachelor's and eventually might be required to get their master's degree.
General Education Jobs
If you decide to get your bachelor's degree in education, you will be able to teach students in the K-12 level. A bachelor's degree in education will allow you to apply for certain entry level positions like consultation or education administration. Before going into the educational sector, you will want to be sure of the particular field you want to go into. Before you make a solid decision on an age group that you'd like to teach, the best thing to do is to schedule appointments with the college counselors. They will be able to go over the specifics taught in each age range and give you a better understanding of what to expect on a day to day basis.
