A study by the Advertising Coalition recently reported that about 630,783 professionals work in the field across the U.S. These individuals were responsible for providing approximately $278.9 billion in ads, the New York Times reports.
Although many people believe advertising professionals only work in cities like New York and Los Angeles, the study shows that there are approximately 13,177 jobs in the field in Arizona, 6,533 positions in Utah and 13,396 employment opportunities in Wisconsin.
Individuals who want to earn an entry-level position in this large industry typically need to have at least a bachelor's degree, particularly with a strong liberal arts background, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports. However, people who are seeking a career in the creative department of an advertising agency typically need a two-year degree from an art program.
Professionals who wish to advance their advertising career to become an assistant account executive may want to consider higher education. According to the BLS, many employers prefer these jobs to be filled by people who have a master's degree in an area such as business administration.
