Social opportunities are offered by distance learning programs
Some students may worry that they will not have the opportunity to meet their classmates or professors if they choose to pursue a degree online. However, many of the communication platforms that are offered by these tracks can enable enrollees to engage in social activity.
In fact, web-based classes can even lead to romantic relationships. Such was the case of Jeremy and Linda Phillips, who met via a discussion board for an online class within which they were both enrolled.
The course, which covered comparative religions, spawned a great deal of debate between the now-married classmates.
"Our ideas clashed and so did we," Jeremy said. "Somehow our first impression changed - discussion board posts led to e-mails, which led to phone calls, which led to meeting face-to-face, which eventually led to our marriage."
The two have been married for three and a half years, had one daughter together and are expecting a baby boy.
These individuals are proof of the unexpected ways that online learning can improve one's life. While improved educational qualifications can lead to a wider range of career options, returning to school in a web-base format could lead to other unexpected yet positive changes.
